The Finale

Hi. I'm Rasmus (I go by Celer online) and I'm a semiotician (BA and MA) in Tartu, Estonia. I began my studies with nonverbal communication, and then switched to an investigation of the concept of phaticity. I've written most of my published research on that. I have a long-standing flirtation with triadomania, and have written a paper on the possible influence of P. E. Chase on C. S. Peirce. My BA thesis waxed the history of phaticity, and my MA thesis was a study of Olaf Stapledon's Last and First Men, a light intermission between the serious stuff.

Now, going forward, I have a few goals set for the rest of my life. I plan to read, and read about, the following philosophers:
  • Plato
  • Aristotle
  • Emile Durkheim
  • Franz Brentano
With these authors, who will surely take a real long time to get thoroughly familiar with, I'm going to expand on my previous studies of Pythagoreanism (Plato → Aristotle), thoroughly review B. Malinowski's critique of Durkheim that spawned "phatic communion", and try my best to get at the root of all modern intellectual evil - Franz Brentano - who taught Edmund Husserl (phenomenology), Anton Marty (the "emotive" function), some Sigmund Freud (psychoanalysis) and Rudolf Steiner (anthroposophy), etc.
Much like my previous single-focus endeavors, this page is going to be just the "main page" for these projects. These readings will be very intermittent, e.g. paper and chapter at a time, so I can't really continue my straightforward "References" page. This will be a new thing, more scattered, even more of a mess. These will be open-ended attempts to gather knowledge from various sources. This page is mainly for myself, to keep track of my efforts. I'm just trying to figure it out, at least for myself.
